The Best Leaders Know How to Ask for Genuine Feedback

Let's explore.

What does authentic empowerment look like? It’s pretty simple, and it means giving another person your ‘power’. Which actually could be described as a choice.

How does one do this? A highly effective leader empowers their team by asking them questions. Once the goals have been established and roles and responsibilities are communicated, letting go of the reins is essential.

Great leaders let go of the process, allowing their teams to solve the issues independently. While remaining available for advice or input, stepping back from the process and giving the team ownership will enable leaders to delegate and see how their teams respond.

Owning a problem and coming up with solutions gives team members confidence. They feel valued and important. And by holding the responsibilities, they feel more connected to the organisation's overall goals.

Over time, new leaders emerge from such experiences. They step into a senior role, leading by example and then empowering their peers and direct reports. Empowerment is contagious when allowed to flourish.

I’m interested in personal stories of empowerment and when you first stepped into a leadership role with more responsibilities. Please share in the comments below.
