Want to hear a statistic so ridiculously high you probably won’t believe it?
According to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace: 2022 Report, “Employees who are not engaged or actively disengaged cost the global economy $7.8 trillion in lost productivity".
This is equal to 11% of global GDP.
Statistically, this means 10% of your employees (if you are lucky) are hurting your business more than you know.
But all is not lost. Not yet, anyhow.
Want to increase the odds and improve their engagement? I recommend all my leadership teams encourage their employees to speak truthfully about the effects of big changes at work. Naturally, there is fear of change, fear of job or status loss, and fear of the unknown. Fear of a lot of things you may not even know about.
But if you can practice and encourage this type of feedback, keeping communication channels clear, your employees will feel supported. They will feel engaged. And they are 7.4 times as likely to have confidence in their leaders and their organizations/companies.
Maybe that would shave a trillion or so off the global economic loss.
